Quirks of the older rigs?

Found a 2003 Superfisherman at a nearby dealer, asking $9,800, but they casually hinted there's wiggle room if I'm serious. The boat's surprisingly clean for its age, minimal scuffing on the hull, seats in good shape, and the trailer looks like it's been kept up. It's got a 115 Merc on it and supposedly low hours, though I haven't seen the proof yet. I'm eyeing it for weekend runs on Lake Erie, maybe the odd fishing trip up north, but before I get too starry eyed, I figured I'd check in here. Anybody here still using a superfisherman from the early 2000s? what should I be looking out for in these older rigs?

Hi PS5 , my StarCraft SFM 170 is a 1996 Model . I bought it in 2011 , I gave $9800.00 for it . The condition was about the same as you are discribing , in my Opinion that's a good price for year and condition . but get all of the details that you can from the owner .

You should check for any engine service records, hull cracks, and trailer condition...early 2000s Superfishermans are actually great, just watch for wear on controls and wiring

That definitely sounds like a great find, especially if it's in as good condition as you described. Make sure to get those engine hours in writing and keep an eye out for any soft spots on the floor, old wiring, and stress cracks near the transom. By the way, did they say anything about whether the trailer has been serviced recently?

I used to have a 2001 Superfisherman, and I really appreciated how dependable it was for my fishing trips. The main problems I faced were some worn wiring and a few small cracks close to the transom, so it's a good idea to inspect those areas. Also, don't overlook the trailer, rust or faulty bearings can be a sneaky headache.
