Finally found my Starcraft time to get to work

After spending years trying out fiberglass boats that just didn't feel right, I finally found a 1975 Starcraft Supersport 16'. It showed up just a few towns away, and I jumped on it the same day. It's surprisingly in good shape for its age, still has the original paint, vintage hardware, and even the old vinyl seats which definitely need some TLC.

I'm planning to take it apart this fall for a nice refresh, replacing the floor, rewiring the lights, and maybe swapping out the old Johnson for something a bit newer. I've always wanted to take on a classic tin boat project, and now this one's finally mine. If anyone has worked on a mid-70s Supersport, I'd love to hear about any surprises you encountered.

Expect some hidden rot under the floor even if it looks solid on top, and the wiring is almost always a mess so yeah I'll give you a star on rewiring, I look forward to your project success

Awesome score! Those old Supersports are tanks. When you tear it down, check the transom for rot and maybee expect some corrosion under the floor, especially around the foam. The wiring's usually a mess on boats that age, so you should consider rewiring. Swapping the Johnson for something newer will make a big difference too. Keep an eye on rivets, they can leak but are fixable. Lots of folks have rebuilt these, so dont hesitate to tap into the Starcraft forums for tips. Good luck!!

Fiberglass boats may be sleeker, but nothing builds real boating character like restoring an old tin can with leaky rivets and crusty wiring. Honestly, if you haven't had to rip out soggy plywood and cuss at 50-year-old fasteners, have you really earned your captain stripes?
