I just bought a '66 Sunchief for fishing on Lake St. Clair and want ideas on interior layout, it is mainly for fishing and on a tight budget, so I'm open to DIY hacks and simple solutions

Nice catch on the '66 Sunchief. Pretty old but still gold to this day. :) I suggest keep it simple if you're gonna use it for fishing and are running on a tight budget. Just add PVC tackle racks, fold-down seats, and DIY rod holders and it'll all be perfect.

Well for a fishing-first setup on a budget, I'd look into modular storage benches, rod holders from PVC, and maybe marine vinyl flooring

Last summer, we put together a budget-friendly makeover on a friend's boat. We used some old patio cushions, thrift store coolers, and zip-tied rod tubes. It was all set for the lake without breaking the bank.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward keeping it minimal, just the essentials for fishing. I like the PVC rack idea. Might also build a simple casting deck if I can keep it light

yeah modular benches sound like a smart move for storage and seating. I've seen some solid PVC rod holder setups too, I might skip carpet and go with vinyl flooring like you said, it is easier to clean.

I love the creativity! I'm all for reusing stuff like patio cushions and coolers, I might swipe that zip-tied rod tube idea too. It's smart, cheap, and totally fits the Sunchief's vibe
