Hello Fellow Members, my name is Gary Baker, 72 years young and trying to live my dream! I have never owned a boat before and now that I have moved back to the Coast of North Carolina, I decided to finally get a boat. It has been a long journey, I purchased a 1979 StarCraft Fishmaster 160 that had been gutted to nothing but a metal shell. Probably was a good choice since someone a long the way had put treated lumber in it and well it had several or more pin holes in it. I sanded it down to the bare metal and repaired the holes and then repainted it. I found a really nice 1985 Johnson 70hp Seahorse motor for it and I have worked on it off and on for over 3 years, went through a bad divorce, prostate cancer and a cardiac condition that included 2 stents in the widow maker artery! So just now getting back to normal and feeling better about working on the boat. I was a career Marine for 20 years and retired a First Sergeant. Saw most of the World from Asia to Africa to Europe to South America. After retiring from the Corps, I moved to the St Louis, MO area, where I started a snack vending business which 4 years later, I found myself a new career, owner of an insurance agency for a Midwestern company, Shelter Insurance Company. I to over a very small agency that had been started by another person, who decided to stop working and care for an elderly parent. I was able to build my agency in 24 years to a very large and successful business. Upon my retirement from Shelter Insurance my agency was split between two new agents as the company had decided it was best for them to work hard to build it larger than to give one person an established agency. I had been married for 32 years at the time and she told me she wanted a divorce, so I moved back to NC. My two daughters live here and I was born in SC. So I had time to work on a boat. I thought! But I will
get it done this time. Hopefully I can get a few ideas and some information from the members of the forum that will help me get it done! I posted 2 pictures, the first one is right after I finished painting it and the second one is how it looked while it was being stored and when I got it ready to start finishing it so I can put it in the water soon.
