Anyone modify or rethink their splashwell setup?

I've been running my Mariner for a while now, and I've really come to appreciate how capable this boat is for its weight, it punches above its class in rough water, and the high sides give me a ton of confidence, so for me, this isn't about switching boats, I wanna try to refine what I've already got and that brings me to the splashwell. it's functional, sure, but also kind of a design leftover that feels like it could be reworked or improved with a bit of thought, has anyone here actually done something creative with the splashwell space?

Whether it's drainage improvements, repurposing that area, or just cleaning up the layout, what ideas have you people tried (or considered but talked yourselves out of)

While I don't have any personal experience, plenty of members in my boating group on FB has added starboard panels over the splashwell to make extra flat storage or even mount tackle drawers. A simple drain upgrade can also save you from a lot of standing water headaches.

Yeah those old splashwells are way bigger than they need to be. Most of the force hits the motor mount, and the only real support comes from those small side wings, its not doing much else . The newer splashwells seem to give better transom support. You could probably lower the crosspiece and still be solid. Just depends how much you're willing to tear into it.
